Project Architect – Technical & Delivery Lead

Location: Pasadena, CA
Reports to: Principal
Salary Range: $105,000 - $125,000+ benefits

Role Summary
We are seeking a licensed Senior Project Architect with strong technical expertise and proven
experience leading projects through construction documentation and construction
administration. This individual will be responsible for maintaining quality, coordinating
consultants, mentoring staff, and supporting schedule and fee performance across multiple
projects.


This is an execution-focused leadership role — not a conceptual design lead or business
development position.


Core Responsibilities


Project Execution & Technical Leadership
•Lead projects from design development through construction administration
•Oversee production of coordinated, code-compliant construction documents
•Direct consultant coordination and integration
•Ensure adherence to firm documentation standards


Quality Control
•Conduct internal QC reviews prior to issuance
•Identify constructability conflicts early
•Reduce rework and improve documentation efficiency


Team Leadership
•Delegate work to junior staff and provide clear direction
•Mentor team members in technical standards and documentation quality
•Support a structured and accountable project environment


Project Performance
•Monitor project hours and phase budgets with Principal oversight
•Identify potential scope creep
•Maintain schedule benchmarks and delivery milestones
•Support overall project profitability


Construction Administration
•Oversee submittals, RFIs, site visits, and field reports
•Resolve technical issues during construction
•Maintain strong communication with consultants and contractors


Required Qualifications
•Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture
•Active California architectural license (required)
•Minimum 12 years professional experience
•Demonstrated leadership through construction administration
•Advanced proficiency in Revit
•Strong knowledge of California building codes and accessibility requirements
•Excellent organizational and communication skills

Project Captain

Location: Pasadena, CA
Reports to: Project Mgt/Leader / Principal

Salary Range: The anticipated salary range for this position is $85,000-$105,000 annually, commensurate with experience, licensure, and demonstrated technical and leadership capability. This position is eligible for performance-based bonus opportunities and participation in the Firm’s profit-sharing program.

Role Summary
The Project Captain is responsible for the technical coordination and production of architectural projects from design development through construction administration. Working closely with the Project Leader and Principal, this role leads consultant coordination, construction document production, and quality control efforts to ensure projects are delivered accurately, efficiently, and in alignment with ONYX standards. This position plays a critical role in protecting project budgets, maintaining documentation quality, and supporting overall project success.


Core Responsibilities


Technical Leadership & Documentation

•Lead coordination and development of construction documents.
•Integrate consultant work into the architectural set and ensure cross-discipline alignment.
•Develop detailed technical solutions across a variety of building types and materials.
•Conduct internal quality control reviews to ensure completeness and accuracy.
•Maintain adherence to ONYX drafting and detailing standards.


Project Coordination
•Coordinate multi-disciplinary consultants throughout design and documentation phases.
•Support schedule adherence by proactively managing drawing progress and team assignments.
•Identify and resolve technical conflicts early to prevent downstream construction issues.
•Participate in client and consultant meetings as needed.


Construction Administration
•Support submittal reviews, RFIs, and field coordination efforts.
•Participate in site visits and assist in resolving construction-related technical questions.
•Ensure documentation reflects design intent and contractual requirements.


Design Support
•Translate design concepts into buildable technical documentation.
•Assist in development of diagrams, presentations, and 3D modeling as required.


Team Collaboration
•Provide direction and mentorship to junior staff.
•Foster a collaborative and accountable team environment.
•Represent ONYX professionally with clients, consultants, and external partners.

Qualifications
•Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture.
•5–8 years of professional experience in an architectural practice.
•Strong experience in construction document production and consultant coordination.
•Demonstrated knowledge of building codes, zoning regulations, and construction methods.
•Experience in construction administration.
•Advanced proficiency in Revit required.

•Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office.
•Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
•Professional licensure preferred but not required.
•LEED AP a plus.
